Dental implants

You may have seen many ads in your local newspaper or television about dental implants. They often feature a before and after image, a person with a crooked tooth smiling off and then the same person a pretty straight teeth and a gorgeous smile.

As a result of advancements in dental medicine, it is now possible to bring about such results with dental implants.

Well how do dentists go about with transplants?

To start with a small metallic device is inserted into the jaw bone; in turn a tooth or a set of new teeth can be anchored into it. The only requirement is that, the jaw bone should be healthy enough to safely anchor the metallic devices.

In the case of dentures, they are permanent and not removable as they are firmly anchored into the jaw bone.

Regrettably, dental implants are still far from economical. The rates start at $1200 per tooth, and may cost upward depending on the problems that interfere with the transplant and may need some other treatment to be made fit for the transplant. Like in some cases the jaw bone needs to be regenerated to support a transplant.

Dental implants are considered as cosmetic treatment, therefore are not covered by most health insurance schemes. But the good thing is that, some dental discount plans allow the patient to save up to 60% on the costs associated with the transplants.
